Around the time I acquired my Bamboo Box I became inspired to paint landscapes and seascapes through the work of watercolour artist David Bellamy. I bought a few second hand books of his from Amazon, especially his paintings of Pembrokeshire, and then discovered he wrote a series of tutorial books which were really useful.
I also found the Searchlight series watercolour books by Terry Harrison helpful too and would paint a small 'study' every evening after finishing my school work prep for the next day's lessons. I was growing in confidence using my paints and my husband did much for my confidence with his many admring comments of my emerging art work.
Like all new skills you learn or hobbies you take up, the longer you spend practising your art the more you realise just how much more there is to learn and master. Watercolour needs a deft touch as the action of watercolour on watercolour paper has its 'own mind' and very frustratingly tends to do its own thing and not quite what I planned or envisaged. 'The Mind of Watercolor' is a very popular art YouTube channel hosted by the talented Steve Mitchell. I found watching his videos both instructive and reassuring and found I began to gain more control over the paint. Click here to watch an episode: https://www.youtube.com/c/mindofwatercolor/featured
Below are some of my early watercolour landscapes. These were both taken from tutorial books - so not my original art.
